Therapy and Treatment of Identity Disorders
At Lumion, our mission is to offer hope and lasting relief to those who are suffering from identity disorders and all types of existential crises.
When we don’t know who we really are, we are easily reactive to anything happening to us. We become reactive to our environment, instead of pro-active in doing what we want and having the life that we want. We are more easily caught up in drama and other people’s problems because we don’t have a strong sense of self; or, an identity disorder.
In its most extreme form, such identity confusion may manifest as Dissociative Identity Disorder. Previously called “multiple personality disorder”, or “split personality”, which are characterized by the presence of two or more distinct personality states.
We all have different types of identities that, when brought together, define us as a person: Self Identity, Relational Identity, Family Identity, Community Identity, Purpose Driven Identity, and Societal Identity. When these identities become jumbled, for whatever reason (often trauma related), identity dissociation may occur.
The underlying reasons for identity disorders are almost universally related to emotional trauma. Thus, failing to address the mental health aspects of any type of emotional trauma makes it nearly impossible for treatments to work.
Identity disorders tend to be an emotional reaction to an existential crisis that must be addressed by experienced mental health care professionals.
